Jason Yu
Master tailor and owner of Ellen Tailors, was born in Shanghai and has been practicing tailoring since 1976. Jason worked many years in the family tailoring business that created the basic practical experience in bespoke cloth construction that he uses for creative designing and alterating clothing for clients.
Through years of working in Leather Fashions Ltd in Auckland, Jason developed the expertise in many pattern techniques and dealing with commerical orders. From opening the shop doors in 1992 at the old Balmoral address, Ellen Tailors has welcomed many thousands of customers. From 1996, Jason introduced one of the first software systems for tailoring, establishing each customer's body dimensions and taste preferences for shirts, suits, jackets, along with detailed records of all past purchases and numerous photos of each customer. With little advertisement except word of mouth, Jason's high quality service became well known in Auckland; Ellen Tailors customer base grew and relocated to Mt Eden Auckland in 2001.
Today, Jason's clients are ordinary New Zealanders, with a few fashion designers, corporates, celebrities, sports personalities, and politicians mixed in them. He will continue to dedicate his time to create individuality in clothing, and improve people's personal wardrobes for many years to come.
